Summary
Google has rolled out a suite of enhancements to its AI Max advertising platform, aimed at making Shopping campaigns more conversational, context‑aware and compliant. The new AI Max for Shopping feature builds on the Merchant Center feed to generate ad copy that directly addresses shopper intent and conversational queries. It introduces Final URL Expansion (FUE), which automatically matches the most relevant landing pages to a shopper’s intent, and Optimal Format Selection, which chooses between text and Shopping ad formats based on relevance. Existing product targeting, bidding flexibility and campaign structure remain unchanged, and advertisers can turn FUE off at any time to restrict delivery to Shopping ads. The feature can be added with a single click, allowing retailers already running Shopping campaigns to adopt it immediately without disrupting current settings.
In addition to the Shopping updates, Google announced two new tools for its AI Max platform that give advertisers more manual control while still leveraging automation. AI Brief lets users provide natural‑language instructions—covering messaging, matching and audience guidelines—to guide Gemini‑powered AI Max. The feature is first available in English for Search campaigns and will later expand to Shopping and Performance Max. Text Disclaimers address a long‑standing limitation for regulated industries by guaranteeing that required legal or compliance text appears in ads even when FUE is enabled. Google said Text Disclaimers will roll out globally in all languages over the next few weeks, allowing advertisers to maintain compliance while still using AI to optimize landing pages.
The rollout is part of Google’s broader effort to future‑proof Shopping ads for the next generation of Search. The company will demonstrate the new capabilities at Google Marketing Live and provide guidance on how to enable AI Max. Retailers can experiment with the new copy and URL expansion options while keeping their existing campaign settings intact, ultimately enhancing ad relevance, simplifying creative creation and giving advertisers more control over landing page matching.
